CASA SOZA*, THE DESERT HOUSE
LA MAISON DU DESERT
DAS WUESTENHAUS
“Where the Streets have no Name” (U2)
If you want to watch your day start with the rising sun and end when it sets, if you want to stay far away from buzzing city life, but still close enough to civilization, if you want to smell desert flowers and listen to the howl of coyotes in the night, Petra & Ric’s hideaway is the place for you!
Are you longing for the solitude of a midcentury homestead to write your next novel or screenplay; paint the masterpiece you always had in mind; or just stare into the starry night?
How about day tripping to Salvation Mountain, Noah Purifoy’s home and outdoor museum? Or have a sound bath in the Integraton.
Grilling under the sky, dining in Palms Springs exquisite restaurants or pool bars or taking an aerial tramway ride onto the San Jacinto Mountain to sip a cocktail with a wide desert view.
And for those that need more excitement: There are festivals all year round from the Palm Springs Film Festival in January, the Modernism Weeks in February and October to the Coachella, Stage Coach and Joshua Tree Music Festivals in April / May or Desert X.
A rustic, crazy cool hobbit hut with original block walls and huge picture windows to the desert and the (often snow covered) San Jacinto Mountain.
Living room with high beams and cozy fireplace. Freestanding bathtub with a view. Huge wooden dining table on the terrace, outdoor grill and fire pit. Two bedrooms, one bath.

WHAT OUR FANTASTIC GUESTS SAY

Petras place is a great escape from today's overwhelming world. Comfy accommodations, great views of the mountains & the lights of palm springs (stay up for a moon rise over the city -- wow, desert hiking out the back door. Easy enough to get to town if you wish. I wish it had been warm enough to be outside for hours of stargazing, but the few short glimpses were amazing. If you want to experience the quiet of the desert, this is the perfect place.”

Beautiful place right in between Palm Springs and Joshua Tree. Great eye for detail at the beautiful restored desert retreat. Spacious with two bedrooms that comfortable sleep 4. Fully equipped kitchen and outdoor grill make it a great place to cocoon if you want.

Retro vibe with modern amenities. Upon arrival the rooms were cooled and the fridge had some necessities. It was a nice touch. Very comfortable beds, and a perfect place for stargazing on the outdoor chairs and sofa that Petra provided. Quiet getaway off the beaten path at a unique place and so close to Joshua Tree!

Petra's place is lovely. We particularly enjoyed the location, the lovely decor touches in the house, which is very close to palm springs, and about a 45 minute drive to joshua tree, yet remote enough to get the real desert experience, and see the stars in the night sky. we were visited by a roadrunner in the morning, which was a delight

Petra was an exceptional host. Their place is charming and it is clear that much attention has been put into every detail to make it an inviting and comfortable space. The location is excellent, and she was very generous to provide personal recommendations of things in the area. Five stars!

The house is absolutely adorable, and the green room is just as vibrant in person. Only things to take note of is the window in the kitchen looks into the bathroom, so if you’re traveling with someone here make sure you’re okay watching each other bathe/poop. Gorgeous windows all over gave such an open feel. Overall it was an amazing experience (:

A delightful desert retreat. It is close enough to feel safe but far enough out to feel like you are the only person in the world. So refreshing. The decor is the best, kudos to the decorator. It had everything we wanted and space to stretch out. Would recommend this to all my friends.

Between the view, the location, and the house itself, I cannot say enough good things! The house itself was super cozy and extremely clean. It was easy to coordinate with Petra. The views from the house were breathtaking! And it was a short, easy drive to downtown Palm Springs and lots of hiking. I would definitely stay here again.

Super cute place, lots of 70’s nostalgia, the dwarf door and outside shower were amazing. Actually the whole place is amazing. The views from all the windows were venue well thought out. 360° view from everywhere outside. 20 mins from Pam springs and 30 from Joshua tree. Way far away from the hustle n bustle of everything. Would stay here again in a heart beat!
